Setting Sankalpa Community Meditation
Saturday January 30, 11 am
January is about over. Did you set resolutions for yourself? If so, how are you doing with them? Do you take an all or nothing attitude? Are you judging success or failure on how much you change? Unlike a resolution which is often termed in negative language, points out our flaws and has specific expectations, a Sankalpa starts with the belief that you are ok as you are now; it is worded in positive terms, without judgement and sees the big picture. A sankalpa is an empowering, self-loving affirmation that blossoms from the recognition and acceptance of your imperfections, and invites us to evolve and adjust through self-study. The yogic practice of Sankalpa brings compassionate self-regulation to all areas of our life.
While comfortably resting in a restorative poses, you will be guided through a meditation to become aware of samskaras (habitual patterns and tendencies that often go unnoticed). Once we are aware of old mindless habits and unconscious thought patterns, we release them by setting an intention that speaks to our bodies, minds and hearts (Sankalpa). Designed to relax, restorative yoga postures are appropriate for all. Beginners and experienced yogi’s are guided into their bodies to replenish energy. Learn how to customize each pose to your body using blankets and pillows from home. Props allow the body to remain comfortable for 10-15 minutes while focusing on the soothing breath and creating a loving intention for yourself.
The monthly meditation takes place on zoom to allow for community and conversation. Megan will also be able to demonstrate and observe you in the postures if you choose. You will be emailed a zoom link after registering or please check your schedule on the Bear Foot Yoga app.

Somatic Back Care Series
Somatic Back Care Series
This Course will be rescheduled in the winter. Offered Online (Zoom). For the first time in 7 years, you can join us from wherever you are!
Soma is the Greek word meaning “living body”. As humans, we are self-aware, self-sensing and self-moving. Through internal exploration, we can find freedom in the body. The natural state of the human body is to be in motion. Injury, trauma, sedentary lifestyle and aging can lead to an inability for the brain to communicate to the muscles effectively. When muscles don’t respond, they “grip” and the tissues are not hydrated, causing pain. These slow, gentle join freeing movements are done seated or lying down allowing you to safely release hidden tension and regain control of the muscles.
The Somatic Back Care Courses may be investigated individually or as part of the complete back course. Classes will include breathing techniques and PDF handouts. They are also appropriate for yoga teachers and body workers and are certified through Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP).
Please pre-register or call Megan at 262-767-1111 with questions regarding your ability to benefit from the courses. $20 per class . Registration is required. All times are Central Standard and are offered via live stream with arranged interactive chat time.
Pelvis & Low Back
Cancelled due to low enrollment
This class focuses on Somatic Yoga for the pelvis and low back. The pelvis is the physical center of our universe. Being able to both engage and relax the muscles around the entire pelvis is the key component to a healthy back and spine.
Neck & Shoulders
This class focuses on Somatic Yoga for the neck and shoulders. Neck, shoulder and upper back pain can be caused by injury, poor posture, physical or emotional trauma, computer/texting slump or a sedentary lifestyle in general. As the front body shortens, the lungs, diaphragm and internal organs are compressed which can cause respiratory, circulatory and digestive problems.
Torso and Core
The “core” is often misrepresented as the muscles in the front of the body, when core stability comes from muscles around the entire torso from waist to armpits. Additionally, the torso needs to have 360 degrees of mobility. Tightness in the torso may show as a leg length discrepancy, one shoulder being higher that the other, or pain in one side of the body. Freedom of movement in the torso will positively effect gate when walking and running, and allow us to twist, side bend and breath with more ease.
