Healing Touch compared to reiki

Biofield therapies such as Reiki and Healing Touch are complementary medicine modalities that are utilized by a significant number of people. Healing Touch works on the biofield similarly to reiki, acupuncture and cranio sacral therapy. The Healing Touch Program provides a comprehensive curriculum that is non-dogmatic and is well established throughout the professional healthcare system worldwide. They teach practitioners to consciously use their hands in a heart-centered and intentional way and offer ongoing trainings and a support network. As with Reiki and other forms of energy medicine, the practitioner does not use his/her own energy, but acts as a conduit directing the energy where it is needed.

What can you expect during a session?

The treatment is typically administered while the client lies on a massage table fully clothed.  With your permission, the practitioner uses his/her hands to assess your biofield and proceeds to clear and balance it as needed using either off body touch or a gentle touch over various areas of the body. Compared to Reiki, Healing Touch has more techniques available for specific conditions, such as back problems.  Depending on the client’s initial assessment, specific techniques are used to open and balance the energy field surrounding the body and the energy centers within the body, which control the energy flow to the physical body. Thus, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels of health and healing are affected.

The clientʼs experience of what is felt during the session depends on the individual. Sensation can range from the very powerful to a sleep-like state with no sensation. Some common feelings are heat, tingling, a rush of warm/cold, pressure, fatigue, laughter or crying, a floating sensation, involuntary body movements or deep relaxation. Whether you feel something or not is not an indication of a successful therapy session.

The history and credentialing of the Healing Touch Program:

Healing Touch Program is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) and it is the only energy therapy recognized as a profession by the U.S. healthcare system. It has been recognized in the medical community since 1989, and is used by more than 75,000 health care practitioners worldwide. Many hospitals offer Healing Touch pre- and post-surgery to accelerate recovery.

Healing Touch was founded by nurse/teacher/intuitive Janet Mentgen, RN BSN, who practiced energy-based care beginning in 1980 in Denver, CO. By extensively researching the work of Barbara Brennan, Brugh Joy, Rosalyn Bruyere and many others to bring together many teachers, techniques, and disciplines, Janet systematically adapted ancient healing practices into the modern medical world.

What is the goal of Healing Touch?

The goal is to restore harmony and balance to the energy system, placing the client in a position to self-heal.  Healing Touch compliments conventional health care and is used in collaboration with other approaches to increase wellness, health and healing.
